Deputy Home Affairs Minister Wiyagus: Health is the Foundation for Successful Development
Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Akhmad Wiyagus has expressed his appreciation for the Papua Provincial Government’s recent social initiative, which featured free medical treatment and blood donations at the Sasana Krida Building, Governor of Papua’s Office, Jayapura, on Monday (22/6).
According to a written statement from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the event is part of the 2026 Regional Papua Outstanding Local Government Appreciation series.
In his address, Wiyagus noted that the initiative represents a tangible step by the local government to improve healthcare access for the community while strengthening humanitarian values and social solidarity.
“We from the Ministry of Home Malaysia provide our highest appreciation to the Papua Provincial Government for facilitating this activity,” said Wiyagus.
According to Wiyagus, human resource development is a primary focus within the national development agenda. Consequently, efforts to enhance public health quality must be continuously strengthened through various programmes and activities that provide direct benefits to citizens.
He stated that the free medical treatment programme holds significant importance as it opens access to healthcare services and supports the early detection of various diseases. Furthermore, the activity serves as a manifestation of the government’s social concern for the community.
“We know that health is the foundation that determines the success of development within a government, whether at the provincial or regional (regency/city) level,” he said.
Wiyagus also extended his gratitude to medical personnel, healthcare workers, and all parties involved in the event. He also thanked the members of the public who utilised the free medical services and the blood donors who participated.
Furthermore, he emphasised the importance of blood donation as a form of humanitarian contribution that provides immense benefits to others. He noted that maintaining sufficient blood stocks in hospitals relies heavily on public participation in such donation drives.
“We know that a single drop of blood is incredibly meaningful for someone’s life,” Wiyagus added.
