Deputy Home Affairs Minister urges regional hospitals to deliver quality services
Deputy Home Affairs Minister (Wamendagri) Akhmad Wiyagus is encouraging regional hospitals to implement superior governance transformation and provide empathetic, professional, and integrity-driven services, making them places where the public can find hope, protection, and quality healthcare.
“Regional hospitals are recommended to transform their service culture to be fast and responsive. They should also adopt the principles of good corporate governance, accelerate digitalisation of services, promote self-reliance, and strengthen leadership and competence,” Wiyagus said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.
He made the remarks at the 16th National Working Meeting of the All-Indonesia Association of Regional Hospitals (ARSADA) in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, on Friday. The meeting carried the theme “Realising Superior Regional Hospitals through Governance Transformation and Service Reform Based on Strengthening Human Resources and Finance.”
Wiyagus asserted that superior hospital governance must be supported by transparency, credibility, professionalism, effectiveness, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
“Service is the core of a hospital’s existence. The public not only wants medically high-quality services but also fast, easy, safe, comfortable, and patient-oriented care,” he said.
He added that service reform must be carried out by simplifying service flows, improving quality and patient safety, utilising digital technology, strengthening flagship services, and increasing public satisfaction.
Therefore, Wiyagus emphasised the crucial role of hospital directors as drivers of change. “Hospital directors today are not only appointed as administrative leaders but also as change leaders who can bring their organisations to be more advanced and competitive,” he stressed.
According to him, a superior hospital must have the ability to maintain and improve service quality. “I have high hopes that ARSADA can continue to be a strategic and solid platform for generating concrete ideas to accelerate the transformation of regional hospitals into superior, professional, and competitive institutions across Indonesia,” he said.
Data compiled by ANTARA indicates that as of 2025, the number of regional hospitals—those owned by provincial, regency, or municipal governments—totals approximately 3,270 units. Of this figure, around 32.2 percent of general hospitals are owned by local governments, meaning there were 849 local government-owned general hospitals out of a total of 2,636 general hospitals as of 2023. Taking into account hospital growth in recent years, the current number of regional public hospitals and local government-owned hospitals nationwide is estimated to be between 850 and 950 units.
