Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Deputy Head of Bareskrim (Wakabareskrim) of the Indonesian National Police, Irjen Pol. Nunung Syaifuddin, has affirmed that he will “crack down” on perpetrators of the misuse of subsidised fuel (BBM) and LPG.

“For the perpetrators: if you persist, I will crack down. We are not playing around,” he stated during a press conference at Bhayangkara Field at National Police Headquarters in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He said that the National Police is determined to support all government policies in achieving energy sovereignty, including preventing leakages in BBM and LPG subsidies.

He further emphasised that there is no longer any room for any party to exploit BBM and LPG subsidies for personal or group gain.

The National Police, he added, will take firm action against individuals who misuse subsidised BBM and LPG.

“My message to the perpetrators, who I hope are listening to what we are conveying this afternoon, is to immediately stop your activities that greatly harm the state and the public. You are not only betraying the state but also betraying the community that needs it,” he said.

Furthermore, the two-star police general also assured that the National Police and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) will take firm action against personnel suspected of being involved in cases of subsidised BBM and LPG misuse.

“We will collaborate in enforcing the law, especially with our TNI counterparts from Puspom (Military Police Centre). We will act together. We will carry out the President’s directive with full commitment,” he said.

During the press conference, the Director of Specific Crimes (Dirtipidter) of Bareskrim Polri, Brigjen Pol. Moh. Irhamni, explained that in 2025, there were 658 cases of subsidised BBM and LPG misuse that were successfully uncovered, securing 583 suspects. Meanwhile, during 2026, 97 cases were uncovered with 89 suspects.
