Deputy Governor Rano Karno Says Lunar New Year 2026 Economic Turnover in Jakarta Reached Rp 9 Trillion

Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno has stated that economic turnover in Jakarta during the 2026 Lunar New Year celebrations reached Rp 9 trillion. Rano estimated that transaction values would increase significantly during the period from Ramadan through to Eid al-Fitr.

“During the recent Lunar New Year activities, economic turnover in Jakarta reached Rp 9 trillion. Heading into Ramadan towards Eid al-Fitr, I am confident it will exceed Rp 20 trillion,” Rano said in the Cengkareng area of West Jakarta on Wednesday (18/2/2026).

According to him, signs of economic momentum are already visible from the increasing footfall at trading centres. One area highlighted was the textile and wholesale market district, which has begun to see a surge in visitors once more.

Rano said this growth must be supported by proper area management and orderliness. He also noted the trend of traders now utilising digital platforms to drive sales, including live streaming on social media.

“People are coming to the markets in droves, whether they intend to buy or not. Nowadays, many traders are already using live streaming on social media. The medium has indeed changed,” he said.

Rano affirmed that the DKI Jakarta provincial government is also focused on maintaining urban stability and comfort during the busy period. The government will prepare market operations and monitor staple goods prices throughout Ramadan.

“It is not only the economy we are focused on, but the economy is what drives life. That is why we safeguard orderliness, cleanliness, security, and comfort in Jakarta,” he concluded.
