Deputy Governor Rano: Flood and Ponding Handling in Jakarta Under 2 Hours Reaches 88.1%
Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno conveyed the achievements in handling floods and ponding in the capital during a plenary session of the DKI Jakarta DPRD. He stated that ponding in Jakarta in 2025 that was addressed within less than two hours reached 88 percent.
“Handling of ponding under two hours reached 88.1%,” said Rano while reading the Governor’s Accountability Statement Report (LKPJ) for the 2025 Fiscal Year at the DKI Jakarta DPRD Building on Monday (20/4/2026).
Rano explained that this achievement is part of the performance in the water resource management (SDA) sector throughout 2025. In addition to accelerating ponding handling, the DKI Provincial Government also carried out various flood control efforts.
Among them were increasing water storage capacity to 539,674 cubic metres as well as dredging rivers at 2,334 points with a total volume of 919,173 cubic metres.
Not only that, coastal area protection was also implemented. Rano mentioned that 71.61% of the coastal areas in the Thousand Islands have been freed from abrasion.
Rano added that various steps were taken to increase Jakarta’s resilience against flooding, while minimising the impact of ponding on community activities.
“These efforts are expected to improve services to the public, especially in facing the potential for ponding and flooding,” he said.
