Deputy Governor Emil Asserts No Students Died from Free Nutritious Meal Poisoning in Sidoarjo

The Deputy Governor of East Java, Emil Elestianto Dardak, who also serves as the Head of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) Task Force for East Java Province, has emphasised that there were no fatalities resulting from the MBG poisoning incident in Sidoarjo. The victims are currently being treated at RSUD Notopito Sidoarjo.

Emil visited the victims of the suspected MBG poisoning at RSUD Notopuro Sidoarjo from Tuesday (1/9/2026) evening until the early hours of the morning. During his visit, he coordinated with the Sidoarjo Regency Government, Islamic boarding school administrators, and hospital officials to personally monitor the condition of the patients.

“First, we want to appreciate Notopuro Hospital, the Head of the Health Office, the Sidoarjo BPBD, and the Sidoarjo Regency Government, specifically the Regent, for their swift handling. As a result, the hundreds of people who arrived at this hospital in a very short period were all able to be managed. No patients were, I am sorry, neglected,” Emil stated at RSUD Notopuro, as reported by detikJatim on Wednesday (2/9).

According to Emil, some patients utilised portable beds (velbed) provided by the Sidoarjo BPBD. However, he noted that the supply of intravenous fluids for the patients remained adequate.

“There were indeed some using velbeds from the BPBD, but the IV fluids were sufficient. The first step taken by the hospital was rehydration. Rehydration is crucial, followed by the administration of medication,” he said.

Emil also expressed his appreciation to the Islamic boarding school authorities, particularly the Kyai, who assisted in the coordination and referral of the students to various hospitals.

“Also, regarding the reports of deaths, please be advised that this is not true, it is not true,” Emil asserted.
