Deputy Foreign Minister Anis Matta Confident Palestinian Independence is Imminent
Deputy Foreign Minister Anis Matta believes that the struggle for Palestinian independence has entered a new chapter and will soon be realised. According to him, the Palestinian issue is no longer merely a struggle of the Palestinian people against colonialism, but has evolved into a battle between humanity and anti-humanity.
“I am very optimistic that Palestinian independence is much closer than we imagine,” he stated during a recent interview on private television.
He concluded that the struggle for Palestinian independence has reached a level he describes as a war between humanity and anti-humanity. According to Anis, the expanding wave of international support has been triggered by the genocide occurring in Gaza from 2023 to the present. This humanitarian tragedy, he noted, has opened the eyes of the global community to the realities unfolding in Palestine.
“People perceive that what we are witnessing is not merely occupation. This is a clear genocide. Therefore, the Palestinian issue no longer belongs solely to the Palestinian people, but has become the concern of all humanity in the world,” said the General Chair of the Gelora Party.
Anis cited the involvement of citizens from various countries in international solidarity actions, including the Global Flotilla humanitarian mission. He noted that the participation of European citizens in various solidarity movements demonstrates that the Palestinian conflict has transcended religious and regional identities.
“Israel is not currently fighting the Palestinian people. They are facing human society. That is what they are fighting,” he said.
Anis assessed that various Israeli military operations in Gaza, which have caused widespread destruction and mass displacement, are instead eroding the state’s moral legitimacy in the eyes of the world. “Every step taken by Israel in Gaza will only destroy Israel’s moral ground in the eyes of the world. The moral basis that has long been the reason for the existence of that state is increasingly vanishing,” he added.
