Deputy Finance Minister Juda Agung has welcomed the launch of a gold Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) as part of efforts to deepen Indonesia’s financial markets.

A gold ETF is an investment instrument in the form of a mutual fund or security traded on the stock exchange and designed to track the price movement of gold.

According to Juda, gold investment has become highly popular worldwide. As a result, global capital market interest in gold-based ETFs has also increased.

“In 2025, global gold ETF assets under management reached US$559 billion with gold holdings amounting to 4,025 tonnes,” he said at the 49th Anniversary of the Indonesian Capital Market and the Launch of the Gold ETF Product on Monday (10/8/2026).

This condition, he continued, reflects the growing importance of this instrument within the global investment ecosystem. He therefore expressed hope that Indonesia’s gold ETF market would be able to compete with regional and global markets.

He also said that gold ETFs must become part of strengthening the national gold ecosystem. Indonesia began developing bullion banking activities in 2023, and the gold ETF will serve as a further development that supports the gold investment ecosystem in the country.

“In bullion business activities, gold does not merely remain an asset that is stored. Through a sound financial ecosystem, gold can now be connected to investment instruments and broader markets,” he said.

He expressed confidence that Indonesia’s bullion market will continue to grow, the capital market will become deeper, and ultimately the public will gain access to an increasingly diverse range of investment alternatives.
