Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Environment (Wamen LH), Diaz Hendropriyono, has invited carbon project developers to participate in the trial phase of the new carbon registry, namely the Carbon Unit Registry System (SRUK), which is soon to be launched.

“SRUK’s operational target is July, in line with the directive from the Coordinating Ministry for Food, so if there are project developers who already have their project design document (PDD) ready, they can now conduct trials to input data into that registry,” said Deputy Minister Diaz in a statement received in Jakarta on Friday.

Speaking at the Indonesia Carbon Market Outlook 2026 in Jakarta on Thursday (16/4), the Deputy Minister of Environment stated that this trial phase is important to expedite the start of carbon trading.

Deputy Minister Diaz reminded that carbon trading is one of the solutions to close the funding gap existing in the world for mitigating the impacts of climate change.

“The current issue is climate funding; according to studies, globally we need 8.6 trillion USD per year until 2030. In the future, it will rise to 10 trillion USD, but the world can only provide funding of around 1.4-1.9 trillion USD, so there is a quite large funding gap,” he said.

In Indonesia, said Deputy Minister Diaz, the climate funding gap persists to this day, and the climate funding that should have been realised has not yet materialised. Domestically, there is still a high funding gap.

“We need 470 trillion per year from 2020 to 2030, but only 76 trillion is available to address climate change issues,” he said.

The British Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste, Dominic Jeremy, on the same occasion, expressed appreciation to the Indonesian government for building carbon trading, which has become a mandate from President Prabowo when meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer last January.

“This forum is in line with the President’s (Prabowo Subianto) mandate to develop carbon trading through Indonesia-UK cooperation; we hope that UK support can be sustainable and long-term,” said Dominic.
