Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (Wamen ESDM) Yuliot Tanjung has stated that his ministry has carried out a series of trials on the use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), covering aspects from endurance to the refuelling process.

Speaking after the Indonesia Sustainable Energy Week (ISEW) 2026 event in Jakarta on Wednesday, Yuliot said the CNG trials were conducted at Lemigas and included endurance as well as CNG refuelling.

“For CNG, we store it in cylinders. We have already tested it at Lemigas. In terms of endurance, and then in terms of refuelling, we have already carried out the testing,” said Yuliot.

He explained that the government has also prepared CNG supply sources through the development of mini refineries, one of which is located in Pasuruan, East Java.

“In terms of the source, we also have mini refineries that we are developing. So there is one in Pasuruan, and there are some in several other regions,” he said.

According to Yuliot, preparations for CNG implementation are being carried out in parallel by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

“So for the CNG preparations, we have also prepared them in parallel at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources,” he said.

Regarding the planned implementation of the trials, Yuliot said that the testing process at Lemigas is still ongoing.

“Hopefully, once the testing is complete, this can be implemented. This will probably be a pilot project first,” said Yuliot.
