Deputy Coordinating Minister: DPR Commission III Does Not Intervene in Publicly Highlighted Legal Cases

Padang (ANTARA) - Deputy Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Otto Hasibuan stated that the DPR RI’s Commission III is not intervening in the enforcement of law in several cases that have recently come under public scrutiny. “So, there is no such thing as intervention. Commission III of the DPR is using its right to oversee the implementation of a law,” said Deputy Coordinating Minister Otto Hasibuan in Solok Regency, West Sumatra, on Thursday. This was conveyed by Otto Hasibuan in response to several law enforcement cases that have attracted public attention, including the case involving Amsal Christy Sitepu, a videographer from North Sumatra, as well as the case of Fandi Ramadhan, a crew member involved in a narcotics case some time ago. On one hand, Otto said that citizens who complain to Commission III of the DPR in pursuit of justice is a legitimate action. On the other hand, if law enforcers feel they are on the right path, they must also enforce or fight for it. However, if there is a mistake by law enforcers, it must be corrected. “But, if (law enforcers) already feel correct, it should be maintained. So, there is no problem. However, do not think that law enforcement is being intervened by the DPR; it is mutual oversight or check and balance,” he said. Moreover, President Prabowo has given significant attention to ensuring no miscarriage of justice occurs, as errors in law enforcement are very dangerous. “Do not let an innocent person be declared guilty. That is the direct attention from the President to me,” he said. The Deputy Coordinating Minister stated that if there is a mistake/error, the relevant law enforcement institution must immediately improve itself so that public trust does not decline. “Regarding how that process runs, I think the institution must improve itself,” said Otto.
