Deputy Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Wamenko Polkam), Lodewijk Freidrich Paulus, has called on Indonesian Muslims to continue strengthening nationalism and safeguarding national unity amid increasing global geopolitical dynamics. Speaking at the VIII Indonesian Muslim Congress (KUII) in Jakarta on Saturday, Lodewijk stated that various conflicts occurring in other countries could serve as important lessons for Indonesia in maintaining national integrity. “What is happening in Venezuela, what is happening in Iran, are two contrasting examples regarding our nationalism,” he said. He emphasised the crucial role of all elements of society, particularly the Muslim community, in preserving the unity and integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. Lodewijk also reminded the audience that current national security challenges are not solely derived from military threats, but are also influenced by economic turmoil, international conflict, and climate change, all of which can impact social stability. “Indonesian Muslims must truly safeguard Indonesian nationalism, weaving together Indonesian unity and integrity,” he stated. According to him, maintaining nationalism is a vital asset for Indonesia to confront these challenges without sacrificing national unity. The Deputy Coordinating Minister expressed his hope that a strong spirit of nationalism would continue to serve as the foundation for maintaining national stability while strengthening Indonesia’s position amidst international geopolitical dynamics.
