Deputy Chief of Police: Polri's Public Relations Division Must Build Public Trust, Not Just Serve as Spokesperson
Deputy Chief of Police Komjen Dedi Prasetyo stated that the role of the Polri Public Relations Division is not merely that of a spokesperson. He reminded that Polri Public Relations has a significant role in combating disinformation and building public trust.
“Public Relations is not just a spokesperson, but a strategic communication hub that manages public perception, builds trust, and combats disinformation to support institutional legitimacy,” said Komjen Dedi at the Polri Public Relations Work Meeting for 2026 in Jakarta (15/4/2026).
Dedi explained that Polri Public Relations must be able to transform through an intelligence-led communication approach. This is done by optimising big data and artificial intelligence-based systems, such as real-time monitoring, intelligent analysis, and rapid responses to issues.
According to him, what needs to be noted is the use of a communication framework based on accuracy, relevance, and clear objectives in every content production. In addition, Dedi mentioned the importance of internalising public relations functions throughout the Polri organisation.
“Referring to Perkap Number 6 of 2023, public relations functions are not only borne by Public Relations personnel, but by all Polri members. Amid the rapid flow of information, every personnel must have good, accurate, and empathetic communication skills,” he explained.
The Deputy Chief of Police also reminded all levels of Polri Public Relations to understand the direction of national policy through the RPJPN 2025-2045, including the eight national development agendas and digital transformation as the main pillar. He emphasised the importance of Polri’s public communication aligning with the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.
Dedi added the importance of optimising the Public Relations War Room as an information control centre to monitor viral issues, analyse trends, and determine mitigation and amplification steps quickly and accurately. He also reminded that the Public Relations Division is the main representation in Polri’s communication to the public.
“Public Relations must be at the forefront in implementing strategic intelligence-led communication, while maintaining the dignity of the Polri institution in the public sphere,” he said.
