Deputy Chairman of DPR RI Commission XIII Sugiat Santoso Awarded Legislator Concerned with Human Rights Protection at KWP Award

VIVA – Deputy Chairman of Commission XIII of the DPR RI, Sugiat Santoso, received the KWP Award 2026 from the Coordinating Body of Parliamentary Journalists (KWP) as the Legislator Concerned with Human Rights Protection. This award serves as appreciation for Sugiat’s dedication and efforts in championing human rights in the country.

Sugiat expressed his gratitude to the KWP as an organisational forum for journalists in Parliament that pays serious attention to the work of DPR RI members.

“I am thankful to be selected as one of the members receiving this award. The KWP Award is a positive step from the journalists’ forum to motivate our work as representatives of the people, especially in Commission XIII of the DPR as a working body of the council that fights for the human rights of the community,” said Sugiat after receiving the award at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Thursday, 16 April 2026.

Sugiat views the awarding of this honour not merely as a ceremonial event. For him, it instead provides new motivation for every legislator to work more concretely in advocating for public aspirations.

“For us, this is not just ceremonial but also an encouragement for DPR members to work concretely in absorbing the people’s aspirations, especially our constituents in each electoral district,” he said.

This legislator from the Gerindra Party Faction appreciated the KWP Award event. Sugiat even regards this event as a bridge for the people’s representatives receiving the award to demonstrate their legislative work to society.

This representative from the North Sumatra III electoral district hopes that in the future, the KWP Award can continue to be held. He wants the synergy between journalists and legislators to continue running well.

“In the future, we hope that positive activities like this continue, most importantly the synergy between media and Parliament continues to run well, so that the public is educated about legislative work,” he emphasised.

The KWP Award 2026 carries the theme ‘Escorting the Struggle, Appreciating Dedication: Together Realising Golden Indonesia’. This event is a biennial agenda aimed at recognising legislators, senators, and parliamentary work partners who provide tangible impact through their legislative and oversight functions.

In this year’s edition, more than 60 award recipients were recorded. The tradition of giving awards has been consistent, such as the KWP Awards 2021 led by Marlen Erikson Sitompul and the KWP Awards 2023 helmed by Ariawan along with Samrut Lellosima.

The implementation of the KWP Award 2026 also received broad support from several state-owned enterprises (BUMNs) and private companies that play a role in national development, including Bank Mandiri, BNI, BRI, GoTo, Hutama Karya, PLN, Taspen, and Inalum.

This support reinforces the importance of collaboration among elements in realising better state governance.
