Deputy Chairman of DPR Commission III Urges Police to Investigate Perpetrators and Motive Behind Acid Attack on Andrie Yunus
Jakarta – Ahmad Sahroni, Deputy Chairman of DPR Commission III, has urged the national police to comprehensively investigate the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus, an activist with the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS).
He called on police to identify the perpetrator and those behind the assault, and to publicly disclose the motive for the attack on Andrie Yunus.
“I urge the police to immediately conduct a thorough investigation into who the perpetrator is and who is behind this attack, and to openly reveal the motive,” Sahroni said when contacted on Friday, 13 March 2026.
According to him, such actions are detrimental to democracy in the country.
“This kind of terror is very damaging to our democratic climate,” he concluded.
Previously, it was reported that Andrie Yunus was attacked with acid by an unknown person on the evening of Thursday, 12 March 2026.
Dimas Bagus Arya, Coordinator of the KontraS Board of Executives, stated that the acid attack caused Andrie to suffer serious injuries to several parts of his body.
Dimas explained that the incident occurred shortly after Andrie had finished recording a podcast at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) with the title “Remilitarisation and Judicial Review in Indonesia”.
The recording session ended at approximately 23:00 WIB.
After being attacked with acid, Andrie was immediately taken to hospital for medical treatment.
Based on initial medical examination results, Andrie was found to have sustained burns covering approximately 24 percent of his body.
“Based on information we have gathered, we assess that this acid attack represents an attempt to silence critical voices in society, particularly human rights defenders,” said Dimas.
