Deputy Chair of the House of Representatives Commission X, Lalu Hadrian Irfani, is pressing President Prabowo Subianto to promote honorary teachers to the status of civil servants (ASN). He has also referenced the National Nutrition Agency’s (BGN) promotion of Nutrition Service Unit (SPPG) employees to contract-based government workers (PPPK).

“If SPPG employees are promoted to PPPK status by BGN, then we are demanding that part-time PPPK teachers be immediately promoted to ASN,” stated Lalu Ari, as he is commonly known, during a meeting in Central Lombok on Tuesday (17 March 2026).

According to Lalu Ari, the circumstances of part-time PPPK teachers require urgent attention. The reason is that their salaries are considerably lower than those of SPPG employees who manage the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme in various regions.

“Part-time PPPK teachers today face an uncertain future, with salaries far lower than SPPG employees who have not yet acquired PPPK status,” he added.

Commission X of the House of Representatives, according to Lalu Ari, has requested the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) to develop a formula in coordination with the Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform (Menpan RB) to convert both part-time and full-time PPPK teachers to ASN status. He acknowledged that this would require careful consideration of state finances.

“We will ensure the central government approves this, but it must be aligned with the state budget,” said the PKB NTB Regional Party Leader.

Lalu Ari stated that the plan to convert SPPG employees to PPPK should proceed in tandem with the House’s proposal to convert part-time PPPK teachers to ASN. He noted that the number of part-time PPPK teachers proposed for conversion to civil servant status reaches 237,000 individuals.

“This means they should move forward together, with equitable treatment, so that justice can be realised. Certainly, BGN has its own considerations. We, as education partners, also have our reasons why part-time PPPK teachers should be promoted promptly,” Lalu Ari explained.

“Meanwhile, private madrasah teachers fall under the Ministry of Religious Affairs,” he added.

Additionally, he requested that authority over part-time PPPK teachers be returned to the central government. Lalu Ari urged the central government to find a solution urgently so that this issue can be resolved in the near term.

“There must be political will from the centre. The transfer of education funds to regions is currently being reduced. Therefore, teacher management must be returned to the centre,” Lalu Ari stated.
