Deputy Chair of DPR Commission IX Urges Flexibility on Campuses Building SPPG Units: Do Not Add Burdens

Yahya stated that not all campuses have sufficient finances to build an SPPG. He also touched on the purpose of higher education institutions.

“Meanwhile, not all campuses have sufficient land and finances. The point is, BGN should not add burdens to campuses. Second, the main task of campuses is to carry out education, research, and community service in accordance with the tri dharma of higher education. Whereas building a kitchen is not the main task of higher education,” he said.

He also asked the BGN to focus on improving the quality of SPPG rather than just the targets achieved. Yahya reminded that there should be no findings of poisoning cases in schools.

“Third, I ask the BGN to focus on improving the quality of SPPG, not on quantity. Now there are around 30,000 SPPG kitchens. That must be maintained in quality so that there are no more poisoning cases that traumatise students,” he explained.

He said the BGN has not been consistent regarding the opening of new kitchens. Meanwhile, he continued, a few months ago the SPPG registration platform was already overloaded.

“Fourth, I view that the BGN is not consistent with opening new kitchens. On one hand, the BGN has closed the new SPPG registration portal for several months because it is already overloaded. The BGN said registrations have reached 38,000 while the need is only 33,000 SPPG kitchens,” said Yahya.

“Meanwhile, on the other hand, now it is opening opportunities for campuses to open SPPG kitchens. The BGN must be consistent, do not confuse the public,” he added.

He also asked the BGN to clarify the issue of buying and selling MBG kitchen points that is circulating in society. He wants the integrity of the BGN to be prioritised.

“Fifth, the BGN must address the issue of buying and selling kitchen points that is circulating in society. Although difficult to prove, but that practice exists in the field. I received information in the field that many members of the public are offered kitchen points as long as they can pay hundreds of millions of rupiah per point. That information is very disturbing because it concerns the integrity of the BGN,” he stated.

Previously, the Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Dadan Hindayana, said that campuses could consider having at least one Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG). This was said to help improve national nutrition.

“I think campuses need to understand this, because this is a great opportunity. At least have one SPPG first, and if possible, the supplies come from the academic community itself,” said Dadan, quoted from Antara, Thursday (30/4).
