Jakarta – Deputy Agriculture Minister Sudaryono revealed that numerous countries wish to import urea fertiliser from Indonesia owing to the Iran-United States conflict.

“Due to this conflict, many countries suddenly desire urea. So many countries then want to import large quantities of urea from us. We are being asked to export substantial quantities of urea to many countries, with multiple countries requesting urea fertiliser regardless of price and cost,” said Sudaryono in Jakarta on Thursday.

The challenging Iran-US conflict situation has enhanced Indonesia’s competitive position. Initially, ageing fertiliser plants operated by Pupuk Indonesia were to be gradually replaced with new facilities, as the older plants were inefficient and costly. However, due to the escalating conflict in the Middle East, many countries are seeking to import urea fertiliser at any price, enabling these older fertiliser plants to resume production.

PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) is the largest urea producer in the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and North Africa regions. With its robust production capacity, the state-owned enterprise possesses the capability to maintain optimal fertiliser supplies for Indonesian farmers.

Pupuk Indonesia is ensuring that domestic fertiliser supplies remain secure amid the geopolitical upheaval occurring in the Middle East region.
