Deputy Agriculture Minister Meets Jokowi, Reports Achievement of Rice Self-Sufficiency in 2025

Deputy Agriculture Minister Sudaryono reported on the progress of the national agricultural sector to former President Joko Widodo during a visit in Solo, Central Java. Sudaryono stated that the meeting discussed developments in the agricultural sector and the continuity of development to maintain food security and public welfare. “I also reported to Mr Jokowi that we have achieved self-sufficiency in 2025 and will continue it,” Sudaryono said in Solo on Saturday (9/5/2026). The government, he said, has also increased the price of unmilled rice to Rp 6,500 per kilogram to enhance economic value for farmers. In addition, the government is deemed successful in maintaining fertiliser availability through price discounts of up to 20 per cent. He assessed that Jokowi’s experience and views remain important as provisions for implementing development programmes, especially in the food sector. Sudaryono also stressed the importance of maintaining synergy and continuity of government so that development programmes run optimally and provide benefits to the community.
