The level of public literacy in Lampung regarding deposit guarantees has only reached 58.8 per cent. This figure remains below the national average of 62.5 per cent.

The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS), Anggito Abimanyu, stated that Lampung was selected as one of the regions for educational reinforcement because its literacy rate remains below the national level.

“Why Lampung? Because, on average, knowledge regarding the LPS in Lampung is below the national average,” Anggito said during a press conference at the Lampung Financial Festival (Lampung Finfest) 2026 in Bandar Lampung on Friday night (4/9/2026).

According to Anggito, issues regarding deposit guarantee literacy are also occurring in several other regions, particularly outside Java. This condition is influenced, in part, by limited education and the LPS’s reach.

“Particularly outside Java, where it is most prevalent. This is because education is lacking, and we also lack the personnel to reach everyone,” he noted.

Understanding deposit guarantees is vital for the interests of customers. With good literacy, the public can identify the amount of funds guaranteed and which types of deposits fall under the scope of LPS protection.

Nationally, survey results from the LPS, in collaboration with the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) and the Financial Services Authority (OJK), show that 62.5 per cent of respondents are aware that their deposits are guaranteed. However, knowledge regarding the LPS as the institution providing such guarantees has only reached 4lag46.3 per cent.

Anggito stated that this discrepancy demonstrates the need for intervention through literacy programmes. The LPS uses mapping results to determine which areas require educational reinforcement.

“There is a gap between literacy regarding guarantees and literacy or knowledge regarding the LPS itself,” he said.

In Lampung, educational reinforcement through Lampung Finfest 2026 also targets students and university undergraduates. The LPS hopes that public understanding of deposit guarantees will increase following these activities.

The LPS will measure the impact of the programme through a follow-up survey approximately one week after the event, involving independent institutions such as universities.

“We hope that Lampung’s rating can rise,” Anggito concluded.
