Depok Residents Disturbed by People Shouting and Singing to Wake for Sahur at 2am Go Viral

A video shows how sahur is woken using loudspeakers that has drawn complaints from residents in Sawangan, Depok City, West Java. The residents who wake others for sahur shout, and some also sing. In a video circulating on social media, the person using the loudspeaker wakes other residents by shouting, and does so while singing through the loudspeaker. Residents say one of the parties waking for sahur uses mosque loudspeakers in a loud and chaotic manner, with songs that are unclear. The man who spoke says he is Muslim and believes it would be better to play murotal or salawat rather than shouting and singing unclear songs. The noise was heard at around 02:20 local time, while the dawn prayer time end of sahur is around 04:40. When asked for confirmation, the head of the Depok Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag Depok), Enjat Mujiat, said the agency had coordinated with the Sawangan Office of Religious Affairs (KUA Sawangan). The result is that three mosques were given warnings. ‘I asked the KUA Sawangan head to coordinate with the RT/RW to gather information about the loudspeakers: Masjid Al-Ikhlas coordinated with the mosque secretary Ustaz Mubin Nurdiansyah,’ said Enjat when contacted by reporters on Friday (6/3/2026). ‘Secondly, Masjid An-Nasul Hadi coordinated with the mosque secretary Ustaz Deni Juniansyah, and Masjid Ibadurrahman with the Yayasan secretary Ustaz Kamal,’ he added. The Ministry of Religious Affairs gave education to these three mosque administrators to maintain environmental conduciveness by guiding them on the use of loudspeakers. ‘To the three mosque administrators we provided understanding and education to maintain the conduciveness of the environment by providing guidance on the use of loudspeakers,’ he said. Enjat added that the three mosque administrators would follow up on the complaint and educate the youths who wake sahur. ‘And, alhamdulillah, the three mosque administrators will follow up on the complaint by educating the youths who wake sahur,’ he concluded.
