Depok Raid on Suspected Brothel Sees One Man Flee Over Fence

A rented house suspected of being used for prostitution was raided in the Cilangkap area of Tapos, Depok, West Java. A man fled by jumping over a fence during the operation. Cilangkap Sub-district Head Galih Catur Prasatya stated the information stemmed from residents’ concerns about suspicious nighttime activities at the property. The local neighbourhood unit head reported the matter on 8 July 2026. Galih said that following the report, he, along with the three pillars of the sub-district, Satpol PP officers, and Satlinmas members, followed up on the report that night. “It should be underscored that this was not a raid, but rather a form of follow-up to a report,” Galih told journalists on Monday (13/7/2026). When officers arrived to confirm the report, they found two women and one man. However, the man fled. “We then visited the rented house to confirm the report regarding the suspicion. We did not detain anyone, but the team found two women and one man who had previously fled, as well as contraceptive wrappers,” he said. The man escaped by jumping over the fence. According to residents, the rented house had been used as a venue for online prostitution for two weeks. “The man inside, perhaps out of fear, tried to escape by jumping the fence. It can be confirmed that the suspicion was proven true,” he stated. “According to information from local residents, the activity is suspected to have been ongoing for approximately two weeks. We cannot confirm whether the activity was conducted through Michat. What is clear is that it utilised smartphones, whether through direct messages on apps or other means,” he added. Through a socio-cultural approach, the authorities provided education and appeals as a preemptive and preventive measure. One woman agreed to leave the rented house. “The tenant was one of the two women, who is known not to be a resident of Cilangkap, with an ID card from outside Depok. Ultimately, of her own accord, she agreed to vacate the rented house that very night,” Galih said.
