Depok Prepares RDF Plant at Cipayung Landfill, Ceases Open Dumping

The Depok City Government is preparing to process waste using a biological mechanism at the Cipayung Final Disposal Site. The initiative involves the construction of a Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) plant. “We are making efforts from upstream to downstream. For the downstream part, we are currently working on building a biological waste processing facility, namely an RDF plant here in Cipayung, with a capacity of 500 to 1,000 tonnes per day,” said Depok Deputy Mayor Chandra Rahmansyah to reporters at the Cipayung landfill on Friday. Chandra also confirmed that the Cipayung landfill no longer accepts open dumping. He noted that a sign from the Ministry of Environment has been installed at the front of the site. “Administratively, this landfill has been closed for open dumping. Technically, we are still being given time to build the waste processing facility here,” he said. Regarding the RDF development, Chandra stated that the city government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a third party and is currently in the process of discussing the cooperation agreement. Previously, a fire broke out at the Cipayung landfill on Thursday at 19:30 WIB. Head of the Depok Environment and Cleanliness Agency, Reni Siti, said the fire originated from a pile of waste below the surface. She confirmed the fire was extinguished by 22:54 WIB and that the cause is still under investigation. “We have patrols here, so we can anticipate and localise it quickly so it does not spread,” she said.
