Depok Prepares RDF Plant at Cipayung Landfill, Ceases Open Dumping
The Depok municipal government is preparing biological waste processing at the Cipayung final disposal site (TPA). The processing facility being prepared is a Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) plant.
“So what we are currently doing is an effort spanning upstream to downstream. For the downstream side, we are indeed now working to build biological waste processing, namely an RDF plant here at Cipayung, with a capacity of 500 to 1,000 tonnes per day,” said Deputy Mayor of Depok Chandra Rahmansyah to reporters at the Cipayung landfill on Friday (17/7/2026).
Chandra also affirmed that the Cipayung landfill no longer accepts open dumping. He said a sign from the Ministry of Environment (KLH) has been installed in front of the landfill.
“Administratively, this landfill has actually been closed (to open dumping), there is already a sign from the Ministry of Environment. And technically, we are still being given time to build the waste processing facility here,” he said.
Regarding the RDF plant development, Chandra said the city has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a third party. The stage currently being undertaken by the Depok municipal government is the negotiation process for the cooperation agreement.
“At the moment we have an MoU with a third party, and we are now entering the discussion process for the cooperation agreement,” he said.
Earlier, a fire broke out at the Cipayung landfill on Thursday (16/7) at 7.30pm WIB. Head of the Depok Environment and Cleanliness Agency (LHK) Reni Siti said the source of the flames came from beneath the waste piles.
“The incident, according to information, occurred at around 7.30pm WIB. It seems it came from below (the point of ignition),” Reni told reporters on Thursday (16/7).
Reni said the fire had been extinguished by 10.52pm WIB. She said the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
“Then, regarding the cause, we still need to investigate first. Because we do in fact have patrols here. So we can anticipate it and localise it quickly so it does not spread,” she said.
