Depok Police to Hold Youth Running Race, Hopes to Make It Regular After Ramadan
Depok, Kompas.com – Comedian Debi Ceper hopes that a running race for teenagers in Depok city can be held regularly after Ramadan 2026. The remark was made by Debi after meeting the Depok Metro Police Chief, Kombes Pol Abdul Waras, to convey residents’ aspirations regarding the permit for a running race in Depok. ‘Perhaps later, if the enthusiasm is high enough to help maintain public safety and order, it could become a positive activity that continues after Ramadan,’ Debi told Kompas.com on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. ‘The Chief of Police also said that running races are allowed, but should not disturb other communities,’ Debi added. ‘That is why he would organise it at the City Hall so that it can be guarded by the police and given a crowd-control permit,’ he added. The plan is that the Depok Metro Police will permit and facilitate a running race for teenagers on 6-7 March 2026. ‘For plans on Friday and Saturday, but perhaps on Thursday there will be a meeting with the organisers. I am only the mouthpiece because the people of Depok have told me,’ Debi said. The running race will be open to residents who have registered, with the technical plan for the first day of the race to be conducted at each Polsek within Depok’s jurisdiction. Next, the winners at the Polsek level will advance to the final round to be held at Depok City Hall on Saturday night (7 March 2026). ‘Registration is free and spectators are also free. He (the Chief of Police) is organising it at City Hall so that it is watched by the police and given a crowd permit,’ Debi explained. The wish was conveyed by Bayu via a short message to Debi’s Instagram account some time ago. The message was then posted publicly. According to Bayu, the youth-focused running event is intended only to fill time and provide entertainment during the fasting month. In addition, the number of spectators present to enliven the atmosphere is said to be quite large. In fact, some spectators are said to have eventually joined the illegal running races.
