Depok Metro Police have partnered with community organisations (ormas) to maintain conducive conditions ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026. Police are calling on community groups to prevent street fights and intensify patrols to protect homes left vacant by residents travelling for the Eid holiday.

This was announced by Depok Metro Police Chief Kombes Abdul Waras during a ‘Public Order Readiness’ briefing at Tower Zamzam Apel Ground, attended by community leaders and community organisations across Depok City on Thursday (26 February 2026). In his address, Abdul stated that synergy is essential to protect the environment from various potential security threats.

“The presence of all of you is a concrete manifestation and firm stance of our shared commitment and spirit in jointly protecting the environment from various potential threats and disturbances in order to create a safe and orderly environment,” Abdul said in his statement.

He noted that social dynamics are developing very rapidly. Potential disturbances can emerge from small matters, such as provocations on social media, misunderstandings in local communities, inter-group competition, and activities that influence public aspirations.

“Therefore, our shared target is very clear: to create conditions that are safe and comfortable—safe for residents engaged in activities, safe for road users and business operators, safe for places of worship, safe in digital spaces. And comfortable in the sense of bringing a sense of peace and certainty of the state’s presence alongside the community,” he explained.

Abdul called on all elements to work in synergy, reminding and supporting each other. He emphasised the importance of prevention efforts, early detection, and collaboration among all community elements during Ramadan through Eid al-Fitr.

“The public is asked to comply with regulations, respect one another, maintain decorum in public spaces and ethics in digital spaces. Particularly during Ramadan and approaching Eid al-Fitr, residents are urged to avoid illegal convoys, disturbances, and behaviour that disrupts public order. Secondly, they should reject and stop the spread of provocations, hoaxes, hate speech, and calls for violence,” he said.

Abdul Waras also warned the public not to be easily provoked by divisive narratives or those encouraging anarchic actions. He urged every local issue to be resolved through deliberation, emphasising coordination with community leaders, religious leaders, and community police officers.

“Fourth, activate environmental vigilance through neighbourhood watch groups and community security councils. Approaching Eid al-Fitr, when mobility increases and many homes are left empty for holiday travel, scheduled patrols and monitoring of vulnerable locations must be strengthened,” he stated.

“Prevention of potential street fights, conflicts, and street crime is conducted with a polite, courteous, and humane approach. Fifth, immediately report any indication of public order disturbances,” he added.

Furthermore, Abdul emphasised that aspirations expressed peacefully and in accordance with regulations remain respected. However, all forms of violence and anarchic actions that harm the public will be firmly rejected.

“Let us demonstrate ‘Protect Citizens—Protect Depok’ as a real movement that is visible in the field, measurable in its results, and felt in its impact by the community,” he concluded.
