Depok Metro Police to Stage Teenage Running Race at Polsek Offices and Depok City Hall on 6–7 March 2026
Depok, Kompas.com - The Depok Metropolitan Police (Polres Metro Depok) plan to organise and facilitate a teenage running event on 6–7 March 2026.
The plan was confirmed by comedian Debi Ceper after meeting with the Depok Police Chief, Kombes Pol Abdul Waras, on Tuesday 3 March 2026 to relay residents’ aspirations regarding the running event.
‘For the plan on Friday and Saturday, but perhaps Thursday there will be a meeting with the organising committee. I’m only a relay because the people of Depok told me,’ Debi told Kompas.com on Wednesday 4 March 2026.
Subsequently, the winners at the Polsek (sector police) level will advance to the final to be held at Depok City Hall on Saturday night, 7 March 2026.
‘Registration is free, and so is watching. He (the Police Chief) is organising it at the City Hall so that it can be guarded by police and issued with a public gathering permit,’ Debi said.
He stated that the phenomenon of running races that often appears during Ramadan can be steered into a positive activity to discover talented athletes.
Furthermore, the event is hoped to help minimise negative activities, such as street fights.
‘Perhaps if the enthusiasm is high, for the sake of maintaining public order and safety (Kamtibmas), it could become a positive activity that continues after Ramadan,’ he added.
To Debi, he hopes that running races or jogging events in public places can be permitted and facilitated to be held in Depok during Ramadan.
The wish was conveyed to Debi via a short message to Bayu’s Instagram account some time ago. The message was then made public.
According to Bayu, the youth-run race is primarily intended to fill time and provide entertainment during the fasting month.
In addition, the number of spectators present to enliven the atmosphere was also quite large. Some of the spectators are even said to have joined the illicit running race.
