Depok Metro Police Organise 'Fun Night Run' as Qualifying Rounds Begin Tonight
Depok, Kompas.com — The Depok Metropolitan Police have organised a running event titled ‘Fun Night Run’ as an effort to channel youths’ energy into positive activities. The event is also hoped to reduce potential brawls and illegal street racing in Depok.
Police Chief Kombes Abdul Waras said the event will be staged in stages, starting from the sector police level on Friday (6 March 2026) until Saturday (7 March 2026).
Participants who pass the selection will then compete in the city‑level final scheduled to take place on Saturday (14 March 2026).
Abdul explained that the police, in this activity, act as facilitators for the youth in Depok to have a space to channel their interests and talents, particularly in sport.
He hopes the activity can be one way to prevent brawls or illegal street racing frequently involving youths.
“Yes, our hope is like that (to prevent brawls and illegal racing). We will nurture them, invite them to do it together so that it is positive and helps develop their athletic abilities,” Abdul said.
The qualifying rounds will run for two days. If the number of participants is not sufficient on the first day, the selection will continue on the following day until all participants are screened to take part in the city‑level final.
“That means if there aren’t enough participants tonight, it will be held again tomorrow. For our city level, the city final, it will be next week at the City Hall forecourt,” Abdul explained.
“Please then avoid negative things especially the brawling; that is unhelpful and harms others as well as yourself. During the event, avoid betting or gambling; that is not allowed,” he added.
For information, the ‘Fun Night Run’ offers a number of development prizes for the winners. The competition is divided into male and female categories, with weight classes of 40–70 kilograms and 75–100 kilograms.
