Depok Man Detained After Forcing Children to Eat Chillies and Locking One in Freezer
A man identified as David, also known as Abang David, has been named a suspect for abusing two seven-year-old children in Cimanggis, Depok. The incident occurred on Tuesday, 14 May 2026, when the two victims, AK and A, were playing and went to a nearby shop to buy snacks. The first shop they visited was closed, so they searched for another and eventually encountered David. According to AKP Hendra, Head of Public Relations for the Depok Metro Police, at around 1 p.m. local time, David asked the children what they wanted to buy. AK replied they wanted noodles, and shortly after, the noodles were ready. While the children were eating, David issued a challenge, offering them money if they could eat chillies and threatening to put them in a freezer if they could not. Out of fear, AK ate some of the chillies but did not finish them. David then challenged the children to get into the freezer for money. He emptied the freezer and forced AK inside, closing the door and leaving the child inside for more than five minutes. The other child, A, knocked on the freezer door, but David did not open it immediately. When he finally did, A saw that AK’s face had turned pale. David then tried to force both children into the freezer together, but they did not fit and were allowed out. He gave AK a small amount of money and threatened the children, warning them not to tell their parents or he would kidnap them. Police have detained David at the Cimanggis Police Station and are preparing to transfer the case to the prosecutor’s office. Both victims are suffering from severe psychological distress and sustained minor injuries.
