The Ministry of Transportation has given its appreciation to the Depok City Government in West Java for its consistency in managing mass transportation to reduce congestion in the capital’s buffer zone. The praise is based on the region’s commitment to providing modern public transport services.

Head of the Depok Transportation Agency, Aan Syurahman, revealed that the ministry commended the city government’s successful steps in organising public transport. The region is considered consistent in improving safety, comfort, and traffic order as well as road transportation.

“The Ministry of Transportation appreciates the Depok City Government’s success in organising mass transportation. The success of this mass transportation arrangement is supported and viewed positively,” Aan said on Saturday (11/7).

Aan added that the positive assessment is based on a strong commitment to providing modern, integrated, safe, and environmentally friendly public transport services.

The evaluation from the ministry covered the successful arrangement of several main points, especially on protocol roads that have long served as the arteries of mobility for Depok residents. “The Ministry of Transportation, through the Jabodetabek Transportation Management Agency (BPTJ), assesses that protocol roads in Depok City, such as Jalan Margonda Raya, Jalan Insinyur Haji Juanda, and Jalan Raya Sawangan, are no longer congested. These roads previously experienced a very high vehicle volume load that exceeded capacity,” Aan explained.

In addition to protocol roads, national roads in the centre of Depok, which previously no longer functioned ideally as main inter-regional corridors, are now confirmed to have optimal infrastructure management. Not only focusing on motorised vehicles, the Ministry of Transportation and BPTJ also gave full support to the Depok City Government’s steps in providing facilities for pedestrians and cyclists. This move is considered aligned with the national vision to create a safe, orderly, and environmentally friendly urban transportation system.

“The Ministry of Transportation and BPTJ positively appreciate the Depok City Government’s steps in improving pedestrian and cyclist facilities, especially at main transportation nodes such as disability-friendly pavements and transportation mode integration, although maintenance at some points still needs to be maximised,” said Aan.

To maintain this positive trend, Aan emphasised that the Depok City Government will continue to optimise urban connectivity. The strategic steps being prepared include adding five new Trans-Jabodetabek routes and expanding two Biskita Trans Depok corridors. This continuous innovation aims to create safe, comfortable, affordable, and environmentally friendly intermodal integration for all residents.

“The Depok City Government has proposed five new Trans-Jabodetabek routes to the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and is currently awaiting final approval. The Governor of DKI Jakarta welcomed the proposal to expand residents’ transportation access,” he said.
