Depok Family Seeks to Move After Alleged Harassment by Neighbour Over Misunderstanding
A family in Pancoran Mas, Depok, has expressed their desire to move after allegedly being subjected to ongoing terror by their neighbour. Novita, the daughter of homeowner Azis Suraji, explained that the harassment began after a misunderstanding when her mother jokingly called the neighbour’s child ‘crazy’ to stop them from crying. “The neighbour took offence to my mother’s joke,” Novita said when met at her home on Friday (17/7/2026).
The situation escalated, with the neighbour allegedly disrupting the family’s activities. Novita recounted one incident where the neighbour played loud music while her mother was hosting a Friday night prayer gathering. “In 2025, my mother was holding a ratiban (prayer gathering) on a Friday night, and the neighbour deliberately blasted music. Is that normal?” she questioned.
Novita admitted the family deeply regrets moving to the area from Kebagusan, Pasar Minggu. “We were happy to move here initially, but after having a neighbour like this, we regret it. It feels like we made a mistake moving here,” she said. The family is now planning to sell the house because their comfort has been completely disturbed.
Previously, CCTV footage showing a man throwing a helmet into the family’s yard in Pancoran Mas, Depok, went viral on social media. The video, circulated on Thursday (16/7/2026), shows a man loitering on a motorcycle outside the victim’s gate before hurling a helmet forcefully into the property. On a different day, the same man was seen dumping rubbish at the victim’s home, leading to a commotion when residents tried to intervene.
Separately, the Head of Criminal Investigation for the Depok Metro Police, AKBP Made Gede Oka, confirmed that the victim had filed a police report on Wednesday (15/6). The report is registered under number LP/B/1531/VII/2026/SPKT/POLRES METRO DEPOK. “Yes, the report was filed last night,” AKBP Made stated. Authorities are currently examining witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation.
