Depok Family Alleges Neighbour Terrorised Them by Kicking Fence and Brandishing Machete
The family of Azis Suraji in Pancoran Mas, Depok, is in conflict with a neighbour, resulting in their home becoming a target of terror. Suraji’s daughter, Novita (29), recounted that the neighbour frequently causes trouble in front of their house. Novita explained that one of the neighbour’s actions was damaging their fence on Wednesday (15/7) by kicking it repeatedly. “That fence damage just happened on the 15th. It’s recent. He used his feet, kicking it,” Novita said when met at her home on Friday (17/7/2026). Novita stated the neighbour also disturbed her family during a religious gathering in 2025 by playing loud music. “In 2025, why do I say the music playing really happened? Because my mother was holding a Thursday night Ratiban recitation. Is that reasonable?” she asked. Novita claimed her family was also once terrorised by the neighbour with a machete, an incident she said occurred on a Lebaran day. “Even during Lebaran, he once brought a machete to us. The family was gathered at home, and he brought a machete. There are many living witnesses, my family members are still alive. Unfortunately, there was no CCTV yet,” she said. Novita added that her family is verbally harassed almost daily. “As for verbal abuse, it’s almost every day,” she noted. Novita said the terror began after the neighbour misunderstood her mother joking with her husband, who is a foreign national. Novita recounted that her mother once called her husband ‘orang gila’ (crazy person) to cheer up her child. “Initially, my husband is a foreigner. He didn’t understand Indonesian. He only understood sarcastic words, like the gist of it. So he was joking with his child until the child cried. Then my mother said ‘orang gila’ to make the child laugh and stop crying,” she said. “Apparently, he was offended by my mother’s words ‘orang gila’, even though no one in my family ever insulted him during that incident,” she continued. Previously, CCTV footage showing a man throwing a helmet into a neighbour’s house in Pancoran Mas, Depok, West Java, went viral on social media. Police are investigating the case. In the video circulating on social media on Thursday (16/7/2026), a man is seen pacing on a motorbike in front of the victim’s house gate before forcefully throwing a helmet into the property. On a different day, the same man was seen dumping rubbish into the victim’s house. Several residents attempted to intervene, but a commotion ensued. When contacted separately, Depok Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKBP Made Gede Oka confirmed the victim filed a police report on Wednesday (15/6). The report is registered under number LP/B/1531/VII/2026/SPKT/POLRES METRO DEPOK. “Yes, they just filed the report last night,” AKBP Made said when confirmed on Thursday (16/7). Police are currently examining witnesses to investigate the case, which is being handled by the Depok Metro Police.
