Depok Faces Drought, Residents Queue with Jugs for Clean Water

Residents queued for clean water distributed by the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Depok chapter in RW 08, Cipayung Jaya Village, Cipayung District, Depok City, West Java, on Wednesday (29/7/2026). The aid was provided following a water crisis caused by residents’ wells drying up over nearly a month since the start of the dry season. A queue of water jugs awaited the arrival of PMI officers distributing clean water. The PMI team filled residents’ jugs while also providing guidance on the wise use of water to meet daily needs. The distribution of clean water was carried out as an emergency response to the worsening conditions in several densely populated settlements. Local residents admitted to struggling to meet basic needs such as cooking, bathing, and washing. PMI plans to continue this aid periodically until water conditions stabilise. Head of the PMI Depok City Headquarters, Imron Maulana, stated that the assistance was provided following a request letter from Cipayung Jaya Village. Following up on the request, PMI immediately scheduled the distribution of clean water for affected residents. ‘There are 78 families or around 280 people who need a supply of clean water. Alhamdulillah, we were able to accommodate all of them,’ said Imron. According to Imron, the drought is not only affecting Cipayung Jaya. Similar conditions are also occurring in several other areas in Depok City, such as Kemiri Muka Village in Beji District, Bedahan Village in Sawangan District, and several points in Cipayung Jaya Village. To support the distribution of aid, PMI Depok City received a loan of one tanker truck with a capacity of 4,000 litres from the PMI headquarters. PMI is also cooperating with the regional water utility company PT Tirta Asasta Depok in the provision of clean water supplies.
