Depok Environment Agency prepares RDF Plant construction at Cipayung landfill

The Environmental and Sanitation Agency (DLHK) of Depok City, West Java, is preparing the construction of a Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) Plant in the Cipayung landfill area as an effort to address the waste problem.

“The facility will later be used to process waste, including the stockpile at the landfill, and turn it into alternative fuel in the form of RDF,” said Head of the Depok City DLHK Reni Siti Nuraeni in Depok on Monday.

According to her, the agency’s downstream strategy going forward is to build an RDF Plant. Its processing capacity is around 1,000 tonnes of waste per day. The construction of the RDF Plant is planned through cooperation with a third party or business entity.

In addition to waste processing through the RDF Plant, Reni revealed that the DLHK is also preparing a strategy through agglomeration cooperation with Bogor Regency.

This step is being taken because Depok City has limited land and it is not possible to open a new landfill. Through this cooperation, waste management will be carried out in the Kayumanis area, Bogor, with a capacity of around 1,000 tonnes of waste per day.

Of that capacity, around 700 tonnes of waste per day will come from Depok City. Reni emphasised that these various strategies are part of the government’s efforts to reduce dependence on the landfill disposal system while extending the service life of the Cipayung landfill.

In addition to building waste processing facilities, the DLHK is also rejuvenating various heavy equipment used at the Cipayung landfill. The rejuvenation is necessary to ensure the equipment can operate optimally and safely in handling waste stockpiles.

“We are also rejuvenating the heavy equipment so that the work is safer and the management process at the landfill can run more quickly,” she concluded.
