The Depok City Government in West Java is positioning the Old Depok Heritage Festival on Jalan Pemuda, Pancoran Mas, as a new tourist destination, showcasing the old Dutch-Depok atmosphere of bygone days. Depok Mayor Supian Suri officially opened the Old Depok Heritage Festival 2026 on Saturday, an event running from 27 to 28 June 2026. The activity, centred on Jalan Pemuda in the Depok subdistrict of Pancoran Mas, is the first collaborative agenda between the Depok City Government and the Cornelis Chastelein Foundation (YLCC). Mayor Supian Suri stated that the presence of the Old Depok Heritage Festival also marks the initial step towards designating Jalan Pemuda and its surroundings as a Heritage Area in Depok City. ‘Hopefully, this activity can be held every year with improvements and its benefits felt by the community,’ he said. Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the 2026 Old Depok Heritage Festival Committee, Ratu Ratna Damayanti, explained that a variety of activities will fill the event with a Dutch-Depok nuance. These include a parade of the 12 Clans of Depok, a fashion show, a bazaar, murals, and a colouring competition. Sixty MSME stands are neatly lined up offering snacks, fashion, and handicrafts. Some products, such as bags and sweets, were even imported directly from the Netherlands. ‘This festival is being held for the first time after three centuries and is the brainchild of the Mayor of Depok, who possesses sensitivity, concern, and strategic thinking to invite all elements of society to collaborate in advancing Depok with its current potential,’ she said. Through the Depok Heritage Festival, the long journey of the Depok Clans is not only remembered but also preserved and passed down. Amidst changing times, history and diversity remain the identity that unites Depok residents from various backgrounds.
