AHEAD of the 2026 Eid holiday exodus, Depok City Government (Pemkot) and the Transportation Department (Dishub) have begun preparing vehicle roadworthiness inspections (ramp checks). The primary focus is ensuring public transport safety.

The Head of Traffic Division at Depok City Transportation Department, Ari Manggala Harahap, stated that buses operating intercity Eid holiday routes from Depok have begun undergoing road safety checks. Inspections are being conducted at Jatijajar Terminal on Bogor Main Road.

“Officers inspect technical conditions such as brakes, lights, tyres, radiator belts, and engine oil. Beyond physical condition, officers also check vehicle registration documentation (KIR),” said Ari Manggala on Friday, 27 February 2026.

Ari Manggala emphasised that the Transportation Department, Depok City Narcotics Agency (BNK), and Depok City Health Department (Dinkes) will conduct urine testing for bus crews.

“These inspections are conducted to reduce accident rates and ensure the 2026 Eid travel period runs safely and smoothly,” he said.

With the 2026 Eid exodus predicted to be congested, he stated that officers would impose sanctions on unroadworthy vehicles. “Vehicles that are unfit for travel will not be permitted to operate, as part of our zero-accident initiative,” he added.

Meanwhile, Jatijajar Terminal Head Rafik Hidayat said the facility has begun conducting routine public vehicle checks as a preventive measure to reduce traffic accidents and ensure public safety, particularly ahead of the 2026 Eid holiday.

“For ramp checks, we conduct them daily. For combined ramp checks, we have yet to receive detailed information,” he said.

Rafik also stated that the terminal is following guidance from the Class I Land Transport Management Centre (BPTD) for West Java regarding Eid holiday transport posts.

For the holiday transport posts, the Class I West Java BPTD has instructed posts to be established at the Cijago Toll Exit junction to monitor and assist police in managing congestion.

“Whilst at the terminal itself, we remain on standby to serve the public during the Eid holiday transport period,” he concluded.

During inspections, officers found buses using vulcanised tyres and lacking complete vehicle documentation.

The Directorate General of Land Transportation under the Ministry of Transportation inspected 85 bus fleet units at the KM 45A Rest Area on the Jagorawi Toll Road, Bogor Regency, on 20-21 December 2025.

For land transport modes, ramp checks will be conducted nationally from 7 November 2025 to 2 January 2026.

The Transportation Department found that several intercity bus companies operating Eid holiday routes still fail to meet roadworthiness and safety requirements ahead of travel.

Observer Djoko Setijowarno noted that ramp check activities for Eid holiday transport have not yet been massively conducted ahead of the 2025 Eid exodus.

To facilitate the Palembang-Muntok crossing, a new dock is planned to be built at Tanjung Kalian Port in Muntok, West Bangka.

Road development preparations for the 2026 Eid exodus in Central Java continue to be accelerated.

Central Java Province is predicted to again become the primary destination for holiday travellers during the 2026 Eid period.

Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi emphasised four key factors determining success in operating 2026 Eid holiday transport services.

Public movement during the 2026 Eid holiday transport period is predicted to be 50.60% of the population, or 143.91 million people.
