The Depok City Government has banned sahur on the road (SOTR) activities throughout the city during Ramadan, stating that the practice has the potential to cause public disorder.

“We call on all residents of Depok not to carry out sahur on the road activities that have the potential to cause public disorder, traffic congestion, noise, or other actions that disturb the community,” said Depok Deputy Mayor Chandra Rahmansyah at a press conference at Depok City Hall on Wednesday (18 February 2026).

The city government has asked residents to hold their pre-dawn meals (sahur) within their own neighbourhoods. Residents may have sahur at home, in mosques, prayer halls, or at locations that have obtained permits from the authorities.

“For communities, organisations, or civic groups wishing to carry out social activities during Ramadan, we urge them to prioritise activities that are positive in nature and impact, such as distributing sahur meals or social assistance, whilst maintaining order and complying with applicable regulations,” he continued.

The Depok City Government also appealed to all parents to supervise and guide their children to avoid involvement in activities that could disrupt public safety and order.

“Local officials together with the military and police will conduct monitoring and enforcement against activities that have the potential to disturb public peace and order. This appeal is conveyed for the attention of all and to be carried out with full responsibility,” he said.

Chandra stated that the police and Satpol PP (municipal police) would take direct action against sahur on the road processions and convoys. He expressed hope that the public would not take offence if stopped during such processions.

“So if there are processions or sahur on the road convoys, do not be angry if they are stopped or dispersed by the police or Satpol PP. Do not be offended, do not complain if you are stopped by security forces, whether from the police, the military, or our Satpol PP, because we have already issued this appeal,” he said.
