Depok (ANTARA) - The West Java city government of Depok is accelerating the Red-and-White Cooperative (KMP) programme, although obstacles remain in establishing its outlets.

Depok Mayor Supian Suri said on Thursday that he had formally asked the central government to ease rules so that municipal assets without certificates could be put to use in support of KMP operations.

“We hope there will be flexibility in the rules on using Depok City Government assets that are not yet certified, so they can support the Red-and-White Cooperative programme,” he said.

He said land availability remained a fundamental challenge in Depok. Of the approximately 9,000 assets owned by the city since it separated from Bogor Regency, only around 1,500 have been officially certified.

To address this shortage, the Depok City Government is working with the 0508/Depok Military District Command to map potential alternative sites.

Nevertheless, Supian Suri urged cooperative managers and urban village officials not to lose heart if they do not yet have impressive physical outlets. He encouraged them to make greater use of digital technology as a short-term way to boost product sales.

“In today’s digital age, sales can already be made online without waiting for a large physical outlet to become available. This can be a practical solution to the limitations of space and business premises,” he said.

As a demonstration of its commitment, the Depok City Government has set aside a dedicated budget to support the continued operation of the Red-and-White Cooperatives.

Regular monthly coordination meetings will also be held to gather feedback, identify obstacles and develop solutions together on the ground.
