Depok Car Free Day to Continue During Ramadan
The Depok city government has declared that the car free day (CFD) on Jalan Margonda Raya will continue to be held throughout Ramadan, stating it does not wish to restrict residents’ activities.
Deputy Mayor Chandra Rahmansyah said the government does not have the authority to restrict people from earning a living, including micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) traders who typically sell goods during the CFD.
“The CFD will continue during Ramadan. The government must not restrict people from trading. On the contrary, we want the public economy to keep moving,” Chandra said, as reported on the Depok city government website on Wednesday (18 February 2026).
He urged traders to adapt their wares accordingly — for instance, offering ready-to-wrap food and beverages that can be stored for the evening breaking of fast.
“We have only made verbal appeals for sellers to adjust their products, for example selling ready-to-wrap food in preparation for breaking the fast. So it remains advisory in nature,” he explained.
He said the CFD during Ramadan could serve as a space for social interaction among residents. The Depok city government hopes the public will continue to engage in productive activities.
“Small business operators still have space to trade, and at the same time the public can enjoy an orderly and conducive weekend atmosphere. We want Ramadan to remain devout, but the wheels of the economy must also keep turning. Both can go hand in hand with mutual respect,” he said.
