Department of Trade Requests Explanation of Blocking Importers

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Department of Trade asked the Directorate General of Customs and Excise to inform them specifically of the criteria of permission to block importers. In addition, should the block be carried out all at once by the Directorate General without a confirmation from the Department of Trade, it is concerned that it will hamper the business of importers who obey the rules.

The statement was noted by the Director General of Foreign Trade Diah Maulida in response to the block permission of 6,000 troubled importers by the Directorate General of Customs and Excise. The importers were evaluated as not importing nor violating a regulation.
The violation, for instance, includes not paying customs in time. The importers were threatened from being degraded from the low- and medium-risk group to the high-risk one.

So far, Diah said, all criteria were determined by the Directorate General of Customs and Excise. The criteria of an importer who within a year does not import anything was also questioned. “Do not let the block that was not presented before the Department of Trade become ineffective,” she said yesterday (04/12). The reason for this was that the Department of Trade keeps issuing new importers’ permits.
