Denying Rumours of Imminent Chaos in Indonesia, Teddy: Everything is Under Control
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya has denied rumours suggesting that Indonesia will face chaos amid the global energy crisis. Teddy described the narrative as mistaken, stating that the country’s situation is under control.
“There was a question earlier, so a while ago there was an issue claiming that Indonesia would soon face chaos. First, I apologise for needing to clarify, but that is a mistaken narrative,” Teddy said at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Friday (10/4/2026), quoted from detikNews.
“There is no chaos. What exists is that everything is under control,” he added.
Teddy stated that evidence of Indonesia remaining under control amid the chaos rumours includes fuel prices (BBM) that have not increased. He compared this to several countries that have raised fuel prices amid difficulties in fuel stocks. President Prabowo Subianto has instead decided not to raise subsidised fuel prices in Indonesia.
“What is the proof? One, amid global conflicts and the impact in the Middle East, the war in the Middle East, many countries have raised fuel prices and faced fuel shortages, but President Prabowo has decided not to increase subsidised fuel prices at all. That is a fact. You can see it yourself in neighbouring countries and surrounding nations,” Teddy said.
Teddy noted that Indonesia’s economy remains optimistic. He stated that prices of staple goods to fuel are stable, with no significant increases.
“Then secondly, economic data from the real economy shows we are heading towards optimism. People’s purchasing power is maintained. And most importantly, this is the most tangible, the Prabowo administration has already conducted two Eids,” Teddy said.
“And the fact, the proof, in those two instances we experienced together, everything was stable. Staple goods and essential needs were available. Prices were stable, fuel was available, and the homecoming traffic flowed smoothly. That is the fact, the data available on the ground. Everything is measurable here. So, the public should not worry,” he added.
