Denying Not Due to MBG, BGN Reveals Chronology of Toddler's Death in Cianjur

Jakarta - The Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) for Public Communication and Investigation, Nanik Sudaryati Deyang, has explained the chronology of a toddler’s death in Cianjur, West Java, which was claimed to be due to consuming Free Nutritious Meals (MBG).

Nanik stated that the MBG provided by the Sukasirna 02 Leles Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG) was received by beneficiaries on 14 April 2026 and consumed on the same day.

“The menu served in the MBG at that time included soy sauce noodles, omelette, milk, and fruit,” said Nanik, quoted from a press release on Monday (27/4/2026).

“Symptoms only appeared two days later, specifically on 16 April 2026, when the child began experiencing vomiting,” Nanik explained.

Nanik added that the toddler last consumed MBG on Tuesday, 14 April 2026.

On Wednesday, 15 April 2026, the child did not consume MBG because he refused to eat.

Nanik noted that out of a total of 2,174 beneficiaries who received MBG on 14 April 2026, not a single one experienced digestive issues.

“This serves as an indicator that the food distributed was in a safe and consumable condition,” she emphasised.

“We extend our deepest condolences for the passing of the child M. Abdul Bais. May the bereaved family be granted strength and fortitude,” Nanik expressed.

Separately, the toddler’s father, Sahjanudin (41), has also confirmed that his child’s death was not related to the MBG programme.

“As the parent of Abdul Bais, I state that my child’s death was purely due to illness. It has no connection to the MBG kitchen at SPPG Sukasirna 02 Leles,” he said.
