The atmosphere at a rental house in the Antapani Tengah neighbourhood, Bandung City, changed abruptly following a visit from personnel from the National Police’s Special Detachment (Densus) 88 Counter-Terrorism unit.

The search was conducted on Friday (2/10/26) in relation to suspected acts of terrorism. A day after the raid, the house, located in the middle of a densely populated residential area, appeared quiet, with no activity visible and several pairs of sandals still piled on the front rack.

The head of the local neighbourhood association (RT 6), Agus, admitted he was shocked when he saw numerous police officers arriving at the rental property. He even entered the premises and witnessed the search process firsthand.

“I thought there was a drug raid or something similar. But then I saw many members from Densus, Inafis, and so on; I was quite surprised,” he said.

According to Agus’s observations, officers removed several items from the house, including books, flash drives, cards, mobile phones, and several bottles containing liquids. However, he noted that he did not see officers seizing any weapons or bombs from the location.

“Flash drives, cards, mobile phones, and there was something in bottles, like some kind of liquid,” he explained.

Agus also shared information regarding the occupants of the house. The man identified as the terrorism suspect is believed to have been arrested elsewhere. During the raid, the house was only occupied by his wife and child, a family that had reportedly been living in the neighbourhood for only about a month.

The identity of the man remains a mystery to local residents. Agus stated that he had never received any reports regarding the man’s identity from the tenants. Although Agus had encountered the man twice, no communication had ever taken place, and he noted that the man tended to avoid contact.

“When I passed by, he wouldn’t look at me. He seemed to be avoiding me,” said Agus.

To date, Densus 88 has not disclosed the detailed results of the search or the legal status of the house’s occupants. The spokesperson for Densus 88, Police Senior Inspector Mayndra Eka Wardhana, stated that they could not provide further details at this time. Information regarding the raid is scheduled to be released on Sunday night, 4 October 2026.
