Densus 88 Confirms South Jakarta School Bomb Threat Suspect Not Linked to Terrorist Networks
The National Police’s Densus 88 counter-terrorism unit has confirmed that the case of a man who sent a bomb threat to SDN Srengseng Sawah 15 Pagi primary school in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, does not constitute a criminal act of terrorism. Police spokesperson for Densus 88, Commissioner Mayndra Eka, stated that the investigation so far has concluded the incident lacks the elements of a terrorism offence.
“Based on the findings gathered up to this afternoon, it can be concluded that the incident does not meet the elements of a criminal act of terrorism,” Mayndra said when contacted on Monday (13/7/2026). He added that the handling of the case will be transferred to the Polda Metro Jaya and the South Jakarta Metropolitan Police. Densus 88 remains on standby and continues to monitor the situation, coordinating with regional units and relevant agencies to anticipate any potential threats to public safety. “Every piece of information that develops will be thoroughly investigated according to applicable procedures,” he stated.
Densus 88 also urged the public to remain calm and not be easily swayed by unverified information. Mayndra assured residents that they could continue their daily activities as normal. “If you find suspicious information or activities, the public is expected to immediately report it to the police so it can be followed up quickly and appropriately,” he concluded.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, identified by the initials MY (34), admitted to sending the threat as a prank. Police are still investigating this claim. The threat was sent while students were conducting their morning flag-raising ceremony. Following a sweep by the Gegana bomb squad and Densus 88, no explosives were found at the location.
The content of the bomb threat read: “GOOD MORNING AND PEACEFUL GREETINGS, PLEASE BE PREPARED WITHIN MINUTES THE SDN 15 PAGI SCHOOL PREMISES WILL EXPLODE AND WE HAVE PREPARED 11 POINTS…!!!”
Ipda Alpino De Tech, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at the South Jakarta Metropolitan Police, said MY was arrested less than 24 hours after the incident, at 12:30 WIB in Gang Kidan, Srengseng Sawah Village, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, not far from the school.
