Densus 88 Arrests Suspected Terrorist in Ciamis for Spreading Propaganda via Social Media

The Indonesian National Police’s Special Detachment (Densus) 88 Anti-terror has arrested a suspected terrorist with the initials AR in Ciamis, West Java. The suspect is alleged to have been spreading propaganda and conducting recruitment via social media. “Densus 88 Anti-terror Police carried out an enforcement action against a man with the initials AR in the Ciamis Regency area, West Java, on Monday, 20 July 2026,” said Densus 88 Anti-terror Police spokesperson Senior Commissioner Mayndra Eka in a statement on Tuesday (21/7/2026). He stated that AR is strongly suspected of incitement and spreading radical content. Furthermore, the suspect also used social media platforms to recruit new members. “This action is part of the law enforcement process based on the results of an in-depth investigation into propaganda, recruitment, and incitement activities via social media platforms,” Mayndra explained. Investigators found a number of digital items of evidence with the suspect. These materials contained narratives justifying acts of radicalism. “Investigators discovered the dissemination of various materials containing narratives of radicalism and terrorism, as well as the legitimisation of violence,” Mayndra revealed. Currently, Densus 88 is still conducting intensive examinations of the suspect. He confirmed that the entire arrest process was carried out in accordance with applicable legal procedures and with respect for human rights. “We emphasise that every police action is taken based on valid evidence, in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations, while upholding the principle of the presumption of innocence and respect for human rights,” he stressed. Mayndra further appealed to the public to be vigilant and proactive in combating the spread of extremist ideologies. He asked the public not to be easily provoked by content containing hate speech. “If you find suspicious activity on social media or digital platforms, the public can report it to law enforcement officials so that it can be followed up in accordance with applicable regulations,” Mayndra concluded.
