Denpasar Water Utility Races to Repair Infrastructure to Curb Water Loss
The Denpasar Regional Public Company for Drinking Water, Tirta Sewakadharma, is racing to repair water network infrastructure to households. The infrastructure improvements are being carried out to reduce the volume of non-revenue water (NRW). “Infrastructure repairs are a certainty, as I reported earlier, one issue is that our NRW is still above the national average,” said I Putu Yasa, President Director of Perumda Air Minum Tirta Sewakadharma Denpasar, during the company’s 29th anniversary event on Wednesday. The infrastructure repairs aim to address pipe leaks in the distribution of water to Denpasar residents’ homes, with the hope of eliminating wasted water loss. “We hope there will be an effort to reduce NRW through the establishment of district metered areas and the replacement of several secondary pipes,” Yasa added. Yasa stated that Perumda Tirta Sewakadharma Denpasar is aligning water resource management with better infrastructure and policies. He hopes various aspects will be fulfilled, especially those related to the environment, social factors, economy, and human resources. Yasa revealed that West Denpasar District has the highest number of Perumda Air Minum Tirta Sewakadharma subscribers, given its larger population compared to other districts. However, water availability there is quite difficult. After West Denpasar, the second highest number of customers is in South Denpasar District. The groundwater conditions in that area, according to Yasa, are also poor. Yasa did not detail the number of customers in each Denpasar district, but noted that around 500 water connections in Denpasar have been removed due to subscription cancellations caused by vacant houses and closed shops. In anticipation of the dry season predicted by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency, Perumda Tirta Sewakadharma Denpasar has prepared several measures. “Our effort is to optimise production, one of which is dredging the long storage to increase capacity, so that the public can receive water with our 24-hour service,” Yasa explained. He also assured a rapid response to any customer complaints. “We do have a 24-hour rapid response team. As soon as they report a disruption, our team will immediately go to the field,” he stated.
