Denpasar Waste Mandatory Separation from 1 April, Weekly Evaluations
Deputy Mayor of Denpasar I Kadek Agus Arya Wibawa has confirmed that from 1 April 2026, waste in the city of Denpasar must be separated. The Denpasar City Government (Pemkot Denpasar) has held a meeting regarding the implementation of this scheme and will conduct evaluations periodically every week. “One week, we evaluate again. Whether the scheme we have set is being followed in the field or not. We will carry out evaluations every week going forward,” said Kadek Agus on Tuesday (31/3/2026). To anticipate waste accumulation in Denpasar, his side has instructed the Denpasar City Environmental Agency (Dinas LHK) to immediately carry out waste collection. He also urged the public not to panic in facing this policy. “We want to convey to the people of Denpasar City, in facing 1 April, not to panic, continue to use the pattern or scheme that has been implemented and directed by the City Government and village apparatus, please follow that,” he explained. Kadek Agus emphasised that Pemkot Denpasar has also prepared an application to support waste handling in the field, namely DPS (Denpasar Prama Sewaka), which has been distributed to adat villages up to the kaling and kadus levels. “In that application, if there is visible piled-up waste, it can be photographed, it will directly enter and can be accessed by our apparatus for handling,” he clarified. Regarding waste management from April, inorganic waste or residue can still be disposed of at the Suwung TPS. In addition, TPST and TPS3R managed by Pemkot Denpasar will continue to be optimised, including the utilisation of bank sampah. Prepare Compost Bags and Modern Teba Kadek Agus said that Pemkot Denpasar is also preparing compost bags or compost sacks for residents who do not have land to create modern teba. He acknowledged the limitation of land for processing organic waste into one of the main obstacles. Therefore, compost bags and composter bins are prepared as alternative solutions. “Due to land limitations, therefore we penetrate through compost bags or composter bins,” said Kadek Agus Arya on Tuesday (31/3/2026). When met at the Denpasar City DPRD Building, he mentioned that the target for building modern teba is 5,800 units in 2025. Meanwhile, in 2026, an additional 10,000 units are targeted. Public facilities such as Lapangan Puputan Badung, Lapangan Lumintang, government offices, to places of worship are prioritised to have modern teba with a total of around 10,000 units. In addition, compost bags will be distributed per family head amounting to 184,000 units. “We have realised 5,000 composter bags, so we will fulfil 176,000 to be distributed in 2026,” he added.
