The New Student Admission System (SPMB) for the 2026/2027 academic year in Denpasar City is set to open soon. The Education, Youth, and Sports Office (Disdikpora) has begun socialising the technical guidelines, including several changes to the rules.

Head of Denpasar City’s Disdikpora, Anak Agung Gede Wiratama, stated that there are several adjustments in the new student admissions for primary (SD) and secondary (SMP) levels. These changes include zoning based on family cards (KK), domicile, and the implementation of the Academic Competency Test (TKA) for the achievement pathway.

“There will be changes to the residential zones according to KK, domicile, and related to the academic competency test (TKA) for the achievement pathway,” he explained during a meeting at the Denpasar City DPRD on Tuesday (5/5/2026).

This year, SPMB covers kindergarten (TK), primary (SD), and secondary (SMP) levels. In Denpasar, there are 166 public primary schools and 17 public secondary schools participating in the system.

Gede Wiratama noted that primary school admissions are dominated by the domicile pathway at 80 per cent, affirmative action at 15 per cent, and transfers at 5 per cent. For secondary schools, there are four pathways: 40 per cent domicile, 20 per cent affirmative action, 35 per cent achievement, and 5 per cent transfers.

“This year, there is an addition of the TKA pathway in the achievement category. Students will use certificates from competency tests organised by the government as the basis for registration,” Wiratama added.

SPMB registration for primary and secondary schools is scheduled to start on 22 June 2026 and will be conducted online. Parents facing technical difficulties can visit the nearest target school for assistance from the committee.

“So if parents have trouble accessing it, they can go directly to the school. There will be committee members ready to help the parents,” he concluded.

Denpasar DPRD to Oversee SPMB Implementation for Primary-Secondary Levels

The Denpasar City DPRD through Commission IV will oversee the implementation of the New Student Admission System (SPMB) for kindergarten, primary, and secondary public schools to ensure it runs smoothly without issues.

“Yes, for supervision and smoothness, it certainly needs to be done. We learn from previous experiences,” he explained.

He added that Commission IV will monitor and anticipate potential deviations in the new student admission process for all levels. In addition, the DPRD is committed to supporting the performance of public schools in implementing SPMB, including ensuring the process runs according to regulations.

Duaja stated that the current system readiness has reached about 90 per cent. He hopes this year’s implementation will be better than the previous year.
