Denpasar Red Cross Targets 15-Minute Response for Accident Victims

The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) in Denpasar conducted an ambulance crew training simulation at its office on Jalan Imam Bonjol on Monday (20/7/2026). The exercise aimed to improve officers’ ability to evacuate accident patients, with a target arrival time of no more than 15 minutes. “In the simulation, the maximum time required for the team to travel from the office to the scene is 15 minutes. In the field, our target is to be even faster so that victims receive initial treatment before being referred to hospital,” explained I Made Yoga Adi Kusuma, Head of Communications for PMI Denpasar. PMI Denpasar has also bolstered its operational strength by adding two new ambulances, manned by 12 on-duty personnel divided into four teams. The training ran from 13 to 20 July, covering theory through to individual practical exercises, including the evacuation of accident victims trapped in vehicles. Yoga noted that the service currently only covers West Denpasar. “For other areas, we collaborate with the Denpasar Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the nearest public health emergency services to ensure victims are treated promptly,” he said. He added that whilst basic facilities are adequate, the branch faces a crucial equipment gap. “We do not yet have automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for handling respiratory or cardiac arrest during transport or at a patient’s home. The PMI Denpasar management is working hard and coordinating with the city government to procure this advanced equipment,” he stated. Yoga also emphasised that PMI Denpasar’s main strength lies not only in its vehicles and core staff but also in its extensive volunteer network, which extends to the village level to build community awareness and preparedness.
