Denpasar City Police (Polresta Denpasar) have stepped up night-time patrols in the Bajra Sandhi Square area, Renon, Denpasar, and around Sumerta Kelod following a rise in illegal street racing. Public relations officer Iptu Gede Adi Saputra Jaya said that illegal racing not only disturbs residents but also endangers road users. ‘This activity will continue to be carried out regularly and continuously. Renon and the surrounding area are a hub of nighttime activity, so they require attention,’ he said on Thursday (21 May) in Denpasar.

During the patrols, Denpasar Timur Sector police monitored the situation and checked groups of youths who lingered late at night. In addition to addressing illegal racing, patrols focused on preventing nighttime crime such as motor-vehicle theft, burglary, and other street crimes that are prone to occur during quiet hours.

Similarly, Denpasar Selatan Sector police intensified Routine Activity (KRYD) operations, enforcement actions, and cooling system measures. Preventive steps target vulnerable points, dense settlements, and tourism sites within the jurisdiction of Denpasar Selatan. In the patrols, officers swept along protocol routes and public activity hubs such as Ngurah Rai Bypass, Jalan Danau Tamblingan, Jalan Danau Poso, and residential areas on Jalan Griya Anyar and Taman Pancing. Officers monitored public facilities, parking areas, shops, and ATM kiosks to narrow the space in which criminals can operate.

The patrols continued into the early hours of Thursday, 21 May, with authorities expanding to more specific areas, including tourist zones and poorly lit streets. ‘The presence of police on the ground during vulnerable hours is a tangible commitment to providing real safety for the community and for visitors to the area of Sanur and its surroundings,’ said the public relations official.
