Denpasar Mother Reported by Husband for Alleged Child Origin Fraud

A young mother in Denpasar, identified by the initials KC, has been reported to the police by her husband, RSL, on suspicion of falsifying the origin of their child. The case is being investigated by the Denpasar Police. KC, accompanied by her mother Lie Jen Lie, underwent questioning on Tuesday (21/7/2026) following a police report filed on 8 June 2026, which was initially a public complaint lodged on 10 March 2026. KC faces charges under Article 401 of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of six years in prison. However, her family and legal counsel consider the charge illogical, as both the complainant and the accused are the biological parents of the child. Lie Jen Lie revealed that the marital discord began shortly after the wedding, with the couple living together for only two months and sleeping in separate rooms. She claimed her daughter suffered severe psychological abuse. The dispute escalated over the location and timing of the birth. The husband wanted KC to give birth on 22 February 2026 at BaliMed Hospital, but due to a medical emergency involving heavy bleeding, KC was evacuated by her mother to RS Prima Medika Sesetan and delivered via caesarean section on 14 February 2026. KC’s lawyer, Siti Sapurah, argued that the elements of the alleged crime are not met, as no birth certificate has been issued and therefore no falsification of parental identity could have occurred. Denpasar Police spokesperson Iptu I Gede Adi Saputra confirmed the investigation, stating that six witnesses have been examined and an expert in criminal law will be consulted. He assured the process is proceeding professionally and without intervention.
