Denpasar Mother Reported by Husband for Alleged Child Origin Fraud
A legal case attracting public attention has unfolded at Denpasar Police headquarters in Bali. A young woman with the initials KC was reported by her own husband, RSL, for the alleged criminal offence of falsifying the origins of their biological child.
On Tuesday (21 July 2026), KC, accompanied by her mother Lie Jen Lie, underwent questioning at Denpasar Police. The examination followed police report number LP/B/349/VI/2026/POLRESTA DENPASAR/POLDA BALI dated 8 June 2026, which had initially been recorded as a public complaint (Dumas) since 10 March 2026.
KC faces Article 401 of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code (KUHP), carrying a maximum sentence of six years’ imprisonment. However, her family and legal counsel consider the charge nonsensical, as the complainant and the suspect are both the biological parents of the child.
Lie Jen Lie, KC’s mother, revealed that the marital rift began shortly after the wedding. She said KC had lived under the same roof as RSL for only two months, sleeping in separate rooms. Lie said her daughter suffered severe psychological abuse.
“There was extraordinary psychological violence against my daughter. One day my daughter called and told me that if she remained at her husband’s house, my grandchild, who was still in the womb, could miscarry,” said Lie Jen Lie, sobbing.
Lie further made the startling disclosure that RSL had once admitted to having homosexual tendencies. KC also felt threatened after seeing a firearm in her husband’s room, and RSL had claimed he was above the law because he had plenty of money.
KC’s legal counsel, Siti Sapurah, familiarly known as Ipung, explained that the root of the dispute was actually a difference over the place and timing of the delivery. RSL wanted KC to give birth on 22 February 2026 at BaliMed Hospital, according to his choice.
However, due to a medical emergency involving severe bleeding, KC was evacuated by her mother to Prima Medika Hospital in Sesetan, where she delivered by caesarean section on 14 February 2026. “Which should she have chosen: following the hospital plan set by RSL with fatal risks, or evacuating for the safety of the mother and baby? This is what the complainant is disputing,” Ipung asserted.
Ipung also questioned the basis for applying Article 401 of the Criminal Code. According to her, the elements of falsifying a child’s origins are usually satisfied only when a birth certificate falsifies the parents’ identities. In this case, however, the birth certificate has not yet been issued because KC does not hold the marriage certificate, which remains in her husband’s possession.
The head of public relations at Denpasar Police, First Inspector I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya, confirmed the existence of the report. He stated that investigators have questioned at least six witnesses and will request the testimony of a criminal law expert to examine the relevant documents.
“The handling of the case has so far proceeded without obstruction. Investigators will continue to work professionally, in accordance with procedures, and with the utmost caution so that all evidence can provide legal certainty,” explained Inspector Adi Saputra.
He also affirmed that there has been no interference in the case and that every stage is being carried out according to the prevailing Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure Code. Police will continue to update the complainant on the investigation’s progress through the SP2HP mechanism.
